Colorado Plateau Photo Odyssey 19: Kolob Canyons

Kolob Canyons is in the northwestern corner of Zion National Park, right after Interstate 15 at Exit 40. From offramp you find yourself, almost immediately, at the Visitor Center. From there it’s six miles to the end of the road and the Kolob Canyon’s Viewpoint:




What are the Kolob Canyons? From what I have seen of them, they are ridge of sandstone mountains sliced apart with various canyons, looking somewhat like this:

It’s basically a long ridge of sandstone structures. The road itself ascends from the Visitor Center to the Taylor Creek area:



The road goes on to the Paria Point area:





From hence it drives past the Kolob Canyons and rises to the overlook:





There are several vantage points from which one can photograph Kolob Canyons. I’m not sure I found a particularly good one. The difficulty is finding an attractive foreground to go with the background. I would need to have more time to explore the area to find that ideal vintage point. More pics:
